Quality Measures and the 5-Star Quality Rating System

The five-star rating system is based on facility performance for three types of performance measures: Health Inspections; Staffing; and Quality Measures. This webinar will focus on the  Quality Measures that directly affect your facilities five-star rating. Tracy Montag and Stephanie Kessler will explain the MDS 3.0 items used and define and interpret the conditions that make up the QM logic in order to have your team code more accurately and identify residents who will flag a QM.


Tracy Montag has participated as an instructor/speaker in health topics at various seminars and conventions for the state and national level health level health care organizations and staff at multiple long term care facilities. Having participated as the co-leader for the State of Pennsylvania in the MDS 3.0 Pilot Project. She was responsible for the research, data collection and site training piece of the project. She worked as an independent contractor with CMS, participating in educational videos titled: MDS 3.0 and the Interdisciplinary Team and the MDS and Facility Leadership. Ms . Montag is identified as an expert in Long Term Care in the MDS 3.0 Resident Assessment Instrument (RAI) User's Manual. 

Stephanie Kessler is a Partner in Reinsel Kuntz Lesher's (RKL's) Senior Living Service Consulting Group. Stephanie has over 20 years od experience in post acute care. She has worked as a nurse and educator prior to starting her career in consulting. Ms. Kessler assists clients with operational, clinical, compliance and a variety of services. She is on the Board of Directors for the American Association of Nurse Assessment Coordination (AANAC), as well as various healthcare association committees.
