General Responsibilities:

Manages the Medicare/Medicaid reimbursement process including auditing prior to submission. Acts as primary lead source for training and development. Assures compliance with RAI and capturing of RUG classification data to ensure appropriate reimbursement. Provides exceptional customer service in support of Presby’s Service from the Heart.

Essential Duties

  1. Participates in the development, implementation and ongoing evaluation of reimbursement priorities in the community and review outcomes.
  2. Evaluates the Medicare and Medicaid processes monthly to assure proper utilization of services to capture appropriate reimbursement. Participates in communities Medicare meetings to review issues and requirements, reporting any issues to the Administrator, DON, and RNAC, as well as other appropriate staff.   3. Collaborates with Finance/Reimbursement Services to review RUG reports and identify RUG categorization. Responsible for providing ongoing communication of findings to administration of the status and affect of clinical documentation on the RAI process and determination of RUG classifications.
  4. Analyzes case mix and management through identifying, evaluating and explaining variations to the Administrator and Director of Nursing.
  5. Maintains acceptable participation level at meetings as required such as Department head meetings, Utilization Review Committee meetings, and Quality Assurance meetings as scheduled. Performs chair responsibilities as assigned.
  6. Advises and assists the RNACs to assure compliance to CMS and Pennsylvania reimbursement regulations and Presby’s Inspired Life Policies and Procedures.

  • Submits and verifies acceptance of the MDS assessments into the QIES data base. 

  • Completes Managed Care updates and re-authorizations. 

  • Facilitates insurance authorization for Part B Managed Care/Insurance Therapy Services. 

  • Participates in monthly Triple Check meetings with Rehab Manager and Medicare Billing Clerk for Medicare Part A billing and provides appropriate diagnosis codes for billing. 

  • Reviews nursing and therapy documentation to accurately code Section GG.  

  • Signs for completion and “locks” MDS assessment for the LPNACs 

  • Monitors the 30-day and 60-day Medicare Part A “spell of illness” 

  • Maintains contact with the Rehab Director to set and adjust the MDS reference date to maximize the RUG scores for reimbursement. 

  • Provides ADL coding training to all new CNA staff, re-training as needed for current staff and ADL in-service as appropriate. 

  • Provides MDS education to all new staff who will be completing MDS-associated evaluations and interviews 

  • Provides MDS education to all new staff who will be directly completing the MDS and is responsible for educating all appropriate staff to any changes to the RAI manual. 

  • Provide ongoing monitoring through clinical observation, record reviews, and communication with nursing staff, medical staff and support departments to ensure compliance with Medicare regulations. 

  • Coordinate and ensure completion and timeliness of Medicare certifications and re-certifications in accordance with Federal and Provider requirements. 

  • Maintain and enforce department and facility procedures, fire prevention and safety standards. 

  • Comply with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act(HIPAA) regulations.
